Abstract
Anza is a technology-focused international development start-up that sells low-cost, high-utility products made from recycled materials to Africa farmers. By harnessing the most unusual of raw materials - trash - our engineering team makes breakthrough, income-generating products at a price $1-a-day farmers can afford. In addition to providing environmental and health benefits, our products help farmers increase their incomes by 50-100% in one year and pull themselves out of poverty. Anza employs a portfolio approach by offering a set of appropriate technologies products. Our company currently sells solar cookers made from recycled plastic bags and water sanitation units made from bamboo and jerry cans in East Africa. We've improved the health and environment of over 2400 East Africans to date. We are now expanding our product line to offer the Anza water roller, which is made from old automobile tires, and is currently being tested in East Africa. Produced at half the cost of competing carts, and nearly 10% the cost of existing water rollers, the Anza cart can transport 4x as much water as traditional methods. These offerings enable Anza to achieve a quadruple bottom line by creating profit, alleviating poverty, improving the planet, and providing health benefits. At Anza, we not only develop low-cost technologies, but also build private sector value chains and support them with mass marketing to deliver our products to impoverished Africans in a scalable and sustainable manner. Anza is the Swahili word for "start," and economic empowerment for the bottom billion starts here.
