Leila Knowles Sustainable Green Leader

Abstract

In 2009, Leila Knowles received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in Architectural Engineering. Currently, she is completing her fifth year of study as an Architectural Engineering student and will earn a Master of Architectural Engineering in May 2010. Her educational emphasis is in the area of Building Mechanical Systems. Leila began her studies as a Civil Engineering student at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln on the Lincoln Campus. During her tenure as a Civil Engineering major she founded the student organization Emerging Green Builders. In 2006, she transferred majors and campuses to study Architectural Engineering on the Omaha Campus and in doing so; she established an additional branch of the Emerging Green Builders student organization. In addition to her studies at the University and work with the Emerging Green Builders student organization, she is working part-time at Boyd Jones as the Sustainability Coordinator, Assistant Project Engineer; her lead project involves work with Creighton University to make it a more sustainable university. Additionally, she is managing the LEED documentation for the Zero Net Energy Test House (ZNETH) project, which she started working with in 2007 in the capacity of architectural and mechanical designer. It is with great pleasure that the Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln nominates Leila Knowles for the 2010 The Extraordinary Stories Award at the NAE Grand Challenge Summit.
